Biography

Rachael Starbuck is an artist, educator, and curator who specializes in sculptural and video arts. Based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she is known for creating fluid and emotionally resonant objects and videos that explore sensitive environments. Starbuck's practice involves maintaining connections through touch, desire, intimacy, and the complexities of communication over distance. As a co-founder of the nomadic curatorial project Partial Shade and a founding member of the MATERIAL GIRLS collective, she collaborates with other female-identifying sculptors and digital artists. Starbuck earned her MFA in Studio Art from the University of Texas at Austin in 2017 and holds a BFA in Sculpture and Extended Media from Virginia Commonwealth University, completed in 2011. Her work has been exhibited at notable venues across the United States and internationally, including ArtPace in San Antonio and Sweet Pass Sculpture Park in Dallas. In 2024, she will be a resident at Shandanken: Storm King, continuing to develop her artistic practice.
