Dr. Rachel Achu

Biography

Rachel Achu, MD, is an Assistant Professor at Boston University's Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, specializing in obstetric anesthesia. She is board-certified and has significant experience in managing complex deliveries, high-risk pregnancies, maternal hemorrhage, and post-partum pain management. Dr. Achu is actively involved in research and quality improvement projects focusing on optimizing post-cesarean pain management techniques, including the use of abdominal wall plane blocks and thoracic/lumbar epidurals. She is also engaged in managing interscapular and upper back pain with labor epidural infusions and utilizing tranexamic acid for post-partum hemorrhage management. As the Director of Obstetric Anesthesiology and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion within the department, she is committed to fostering a culturally competent and inclusive environment that values diversity and promotes open communication among residents, faculty, and staff. Dr. Achu's work exemplifies a commitment to patient safety and excellence in clinical education, aiming to develop the fullest potential of her students and colleagues in a supportive and equitable academic setting.
