Biography

Rachel Aumiller engages with the ethical and political dimensions of emotions, sensations, and desire. She specifically analyzes the crisis of touch and its ethical ambiguities surrounding sexual intimacy and the tension between cultural norms and personal experiences. In her book, 'Touch Doubt: Haptic Scepticism' (De Gruyter 2021), Aumiller articulates a queer feminist ethic of intimacy that disrupts conventional beliefs and practices related to touching. Her research also explores the politics of laughter within the Hegelian-Marxist tradition in her forthcoming book, 'Laughing Matter Spirit' (Northwestern University Press). Aumiller received her PhD in Philosophy from Villanova University in 2016 and has previously taught at both Columbia University and the University of Hamburg.
