Biography

Rachel Badlan is a Postdoctoral Fellow at UNSW Canberra within the School of Science. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics and Atmospheric Science from the University of Melbourne in 2009, followed by an Honours degree in 2010. Her Honours work explored the effects of atmospheric dynamics on terrain fire danger. Rachel completed her PhD in Earth Sciences in 2017, focusing on momentum transport in tropical convection utilizing the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model and observational data from Doppler radar. She currently collaborates with Professor Jason Sharples on projects related to bushfire dynamics, particularly developing a mapping tool for Australian fire agencies that aids in identifying areas at risk of extreme fire development.
