Dr. Rachel Cleves

Biography

Rachel Cleves is a professor specializing in American history, LGBTQ2S+ history, and food history at the University of Victoria. Her passion for American history began in her teenage years while traveling across the United States, including a notable visit to Missouri. She pursued her BA at Columbia University and later earned her MA and PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. Cleves joined the faculty at the University of Victoria in 2009 after teaching for four years at Northern Illinois University. Her research delves into complex themes such as sexuality and its historical narratives, examining how these elements intertwine with food and culture in America.
