Biography

Professor Rachel Condry is the Director of the Centre for Criminology and a Fellow at St Hilda's College, University of Oxford. She has previously held positions as a lecturer and a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow at the London School of Economics, as well as a lecturer in criminology at the University of Surrey. Her research focuses broadly on the intersections of crime and family, with significant projects exploring the experiences of families with serious offenders, prisoners' families, parenting in youth justice settings, and issues of filial violence. Professor Condry directs the Filial Violence Project under the Global Prisoners' Families Group, and she is the editor of the book series Routledge Studies in Crime, Justice and Family. She teaches courses related to MSc Criminology & Criminal Justice, covering topics such as Criminological Theories, Crime and Family, and Youth Justice. In her supervisory role, she engages with DPhil, MPhil, and MSc students, especially those who are interested in researching the impacts of punishment on families, filial violence, parricide, motherhood, and state responses to young people in conflict with the law. Professor Condry particularly welcomes applications from students interested in employing critical theories and creative methodologies in diverse global contexts.
