Biography

Rachel has been a part-time lecturer in Animation at Edinburgh College of Art since 2008. She divides her time between teaching and her home studio, where she engages in freelance creative practice. Rachel's work primarily explores illustration and printmaking methods, with a focus on dry point etching. Her interests include character work and storytelling in auteur animation, specifically looking at processes that combine handcrafted traditions with new technology while maintaining the rich textures that come from working with non-digital materials. Rachel studied Animation at Edinburgh College of Art, graduating in 1999, and shortly thereafter began her career at Edinburgh-based animation studios, including Red Kite, where she assisted on several animation films for Channel Four, Scottish Screen National Lottery, and BBC Alba. Additionally, Rachel has led numerous animation workshops in schools across Scotland and has received accolades, including 'Best Children's Film' at the International Festival of Animation in Ottawa in 2003 and the Engage Scotland 'Visual Arts Education Award for Improving Mental Health' in 2005.
