Rachel Morley graduated with a BA in French Language and Literature from the University of Oxford. After several years of teaching French, she began studying Russian and enrolled in the SSEES ab initio degree programme, completing her BA, MA, and doctoral degree. From 1999 to 2009, she served as a Postgraduate Teaching Assistant at SSEES, where she delivered courses in Russian cinema, Russian poetry, Russian language, and Russian-English translation. From 2006 to 2008, she taught at the Department of Slavonic Studies at the University of Cambridge. Morley returned to SSEES and has worked in her current position since September 2013. She is the Co-Convenor of the UCL SSEES Cinema Research Group, which organizes work-in-progress seminars and hosts talks with scholars working in cinema studies at UCL and other international universities. From 2014 to 2018, she was an International Affiliate Tutor at SSEES, providing academic pastoral support to undergraduates, including guiding BA and MA affiliate students from partner universities overseas. She held a Leverhulme Trust Research Fellowship from 2020 to 2022, awarded for her project 'Forms of Female Subjectivity in Contemporary Russian Women's Cinema'. Currently, she is the SSEES Academic Director for Education and Student Experience for the term 2022-2027.
