Biography

Dr. Rachel O'Neill is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Media and Communications at the London School of Economics. She is a feminist media scholar specializing in gender and sexuality. Her research interrogates questions of subjectivity and inequality, primarily in the contemporary UK context, with a focus on transnational circulations of culture and capital. Dr. O'Neill is the author of the book 'Seduction: Men, Masculinity and Mediated Intimacy', published by Polity in 2018. Before joining LSE, she was a Research Fellow in Sociology at the University of Warwick. Dr. O'Neill earned her PhD in Gender and Cultural Studies from King’s College London. Her expertise includes media and cultural studies, ethnography, qualitative methods, and feminist theory. Dr. O'Neill has received accolades for her research, including the BSA SAGE Prize for Innovation and Excellence in 2016 and a nomination for the Philip Abrams Memorial Prize by the British Sociological Association in 2019.
