Biography

Rachel Ozanne is an Associate Professor in the Department of Liberal Arts at the University of Texas at Austin. She started her academic journey with a BA in Plan II History from the University of Texas at Austin in 2006, focusing on Kierkegaard's notion of faith and its relationship to the Christian community in her Honors Thesis. Ozanne continued her studies in history, enrolling in the graduate program at UT in 2007, where she earned her MA with a report titled 'The Healing Subconscious,' exploring the intersection of psychology and religion through the Emmanuel movement. She completed her Ph.D. in U.S. history in 2013, presenting a dissertation on the dynamics between individual religious experiences and community ethics in Antebellum America. Ozanne has edited and contributed to various works, including a recently published introduction to Norman Brown's book on Texas political history. Her recent writings also reflect her research interests in secular sainthood and the role of religious experience in contemporary media.
