Biography

Rachel Sangree is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Civil and Systems Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. She serves as the Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Civil Engineering program and chairs the Engineering Professionals (EP) Civil Engineering track. Her research interests lie in engineering education with a focus on Structural Engineering and Historic Structures. She is dedicated to identifying and implementing effective teaching methods within undergraduate civil engineering programs and is interested in community engagement and K-12 outreach to attract and retain future generations of civil engineers. Sangree is a past winner of the Robert B. Pond, Sr. Excellence in Teaching Award at Johns Hopkins, which recognizes faculty who excel in the art of teaching, advising, and mentoring. She holds a BS and MS in civil engineering from Bucknell University and a PhD from Johns Hopkins University. Prior to her current role, she worked as a bridge design engineer at Whitman, Requardt, Associates, LLP in Baltimore, MD. Additionally, she is a licensed professional engineer in the State of Maryland and currently serves as the President of the ASCE Maryland Section Board.
