Dr. Rachel White

Biography

Rachel S. White is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy at the University of Texas at Austin. She holds the L.D. Haskew Centennial Professorship in Public School Administration. Prior to her current role, she served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and Old Dominion University. Dr. White's research focuses on issues of power and voice in education policymaking and implementation processes, particularly in relation to public school district superintendents and school boards. Her work investigates the dynamics of superintendent labor markets, mobility, and attrition, as well as the challenges superintendents face in politically contentious environments. Her scholarship has been published in prominent journals such as Educational Researcher, Journal of Educational Administration, and Education Policy. In addition, she has contributed to various books and edited volumes. Dr. White's academic contributions have been recognized with several awards, including the William J. Davis Award for her outstanding article in Educational Administration Quarterly and the New Scholar Award from the Association for Education Finance and Policy. Her ongoing projects continue to examine the intersection of leadership, policy, and educational equity in U.S. schools.
