Biography

Rachel Wightman, MD is an Associate Professor of Epidemiology and Emergency Medicine at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She is a practicing physician triple board-certified in medical toxicology, emergency medicine, and addiction medicine. Dr. Wightman serves as the Director of Toxicology and Addiction Medicine at Brown Emergency Medicine and holds the position of Medical Director at the Rhode Island Department of Health. Her research interests focus on emerging drug use patterns, particularly cannabis use and the management of opioid use disorder. She is currently the Multiple Principal Investigator (MPI) on a National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) study evaluating the optimal buprenorphine maintenance dose for opioid use disorder patients, particularly those using fentanyl (UG3/UH3DA056880). Additionally, she is the Principal Investigator on a NIDA-funded R21 grant investigating cannabis hyperemesis (R21DA055023) and an MPI on a FORE Foundation grant evaluating street-level changes in drug supply.
