Rachel Wolfson, M.D., Ph.D. joined the Harvard Medical School faculty as an Assistant Professor in Cell Biology in September 2024. She received her M.D. from Harvard Medical School and her Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Following her education, she performed clinical training at Massachusetts General Hospital and conducted postdoctoral research in the Department of Neurobiology at Harvard Medical School. Her lab focuses on understanding the mechanisms of internal sensation, particularly the visceral innervating sensory neurons whose cell bodies reside in the dorsal root ganglia (DRG). These DRG sensory neurons play a critical role in targeting internal organs and the gastrointestinal tract, allowing them to sense internal stimuli. The Wolfson Lab employs a variety of techniques including neurobiology, biochemistry, and molecular biology to investigate how these neurons convey diverse stimuli and control both physiological and pathophysiological processes.
