Biography

Rade Paravina is a tenured professor and director at the John M. Powers, PhD, Center for Biomaterials and Biomimetics at UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry. He holds the Ralph C. Cooley, DDS, Distinguished Professorship in Biomaterials, which was established by world-renowned heart surgeon Denton Cooley, MD. Dr. Paravina has authored or co-edited four books and contributed to over 20 book chapters, alongside more than 300 peer-reviewed publications. He is noted for his work in designing and developing dental products and tests in collaboration with Vita Zahnfabrik, including shade guides and the Dental Color Matcher, a free online training program for esthetic dentistry. As a past president and founder of the Society for Color and Appearance in Dentistry (SCAD), he has received various accolades, including the 2011 E. B. Clark Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award from SCAD in 2014. Dr. Paravina is actively involved in the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry and serves as Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry, alongside being an editorial board member for multiple prestigious journals. He lectures nationally and internationally on topics associated with color and appearance in esthetic dentistry.
