Biography

Radhika Subramanian received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Brandeis University and performed her postdoctoral work at Rockefeller University. She joined the faculty of the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in October 2014. Her research is focused on micron-length scale structures that are critical for cellular signaling, especially in the collective activity of nanometer-sized proteins. She addresses questions regarding microtubule organization during cell division and investigates cilium-dependent Hedgehog signal transduction. Radhika primarily employs a reconstitution-based approach to 'reconstruct' sub-reactions within cellular pathways using vitro purified components. Her aim is to decipher the fundamental rules that govern the spatial-temporal organization of cellular machines such as organelles, spindle, and cilium. Radhika integrates a wide range of experimental techniques, utilizing cutting-edge single-molecule methods, high-resolution microscopy, structural tools, and biochemical cellular read-outs in her studies. The ultimate goal of her work is to understand cellular mechanisms that are relevant to developmental disorders and human cancers.
