Biography

Rae St. Clair Bridgman is a Professor in the Department of City Planning at the University of Manitoba, where she has been a faculty member since 1998. She has served as the Associate Dean (Research) from 2002 to 2008 and is currently the Associate Dean (Academic). Dr. Bridgman’s research focuses on chronic homelessness, including ethnographic studies involving homeless women and men in Canada, innovative housing models, and youth homelessness. Her work has been recognized through multiple SSHRC grants and various awards such as the University of Manitoba Merit Award in Social Sciences and Humanities and the Rh Award for Outstanding Contributions to Interdisciplinary Scholarship. She has published six authored and co-edited books and numerous journal articles and book chapters. Her ongoing research interests include child-friendly cities, playful cities, and architectural building toys. Additionally, Dr. Bridgman is a co-director of the Winnipeg design studio Bridgman Collaborative Architecture and is an accomplished visual artist, having received numerous design and heritage conservation awards. She enjoys playing the tuba in community bands and has authored illustrated children's books.
