Biography

Raffaello Mariani is an Associate Professor at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in the Division of Aerospace, focusing on experimental aerodynamics. He earned his BSc in Aerospace Engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 2003 and an MEng in Aerospace Engineering with a concentration on Experimental Methods from Old Dominion University in 2005. His professional experience includes working as a wind tunnel operator at BMT FM in Teddington, UK, and conducting industrial wind tunnel tests. After pursuing a PhD in fundamental fluid dynamics at the University of Manchester, where he concentrated on compressible vortex rings, he joined ONERA as a Wind Tunnel Test Engineer. In 2017, he returned to academia at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, focusing on quantitative schlieren analysis of supersonic jets. Since August 2018, he has been with KTH, becoming an Associate Professor in Aeronautical Vehicle Engineering by June 2022. Mariani teaches a variety of courses, including Advanced Topics in Aeronautics and Computational Aerodynamics, and is responsible for multiple degree projects in Aeronautics and Mechanical Engineering.
