Dr. Rafiqul Islam

Biography

Rafiqul Islam is an Emeritus Professor in Law at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia, with over 45 years of experience in legal education and research. He completed his BA and MA in Economics and LLB from the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh, and earned his LLM and PhD in International Law from Monash University, Australia. Professor Islam has played significant roles in academia including Acting Dean and Director of Research in Macquarie Law School and has taught in various countries. His research focuses primarily on Public International Law, International Human Rights Law, and International Trade Law, with numerous publications to his name, including books and journal articles. He has supervised many students at Master's and Doctorate levels and received several awards for his contributions to teaching and research supervision. His recent works include contributions to topics on transitional justice in Bangladesh and the implications of international law in local contexts. He continues to engage actively in legal scholarship and has recently edited books reflecting constitutional law and human rights advancements in Bangladesh.
