Dr. Raghu Garud

Biography

Raghu B. Garud is the Michael J. Farrell Chair Professor at the Smeal College of Business, Pennsylvania State University. His research focuses on the emergence, novelty, and adoption of new ideas, exploring how they become institutionalized. He has extensively published on concepts such as path creation, economies of substitution, technology entrepreneurship, and socio-cognitive aspects of technology emergence. His contributions have been recognized by the Technology Innovation Management Division of the Academy of Management, where he was named a distinguished scholar in 2020. Raghu adopts an engaged scholarship approach, collaborating with practitioners across various industries, exemplified by his five-year Ph.D. appointment with 3M Corporation. He has also worked with companies like Infosys Technologies, MindTree, and NCR Corporation, and has interacted with scientists at CERN in Geneva. Prior to his appointment at Penn State, he was a faculty member at the Stern School of Business, New York University. Raghu has held visiting scholar positions at multiple prestigious institutions, including the University of Cambridge and the Indian School of Business. He has co-edited several notable publications and teaches various courses related to innovation and entrepreneurship.
