Biography

Ragnhild Nordås is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Michigan's LSA International Institute. She completed her Ph.D. in Political Science at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in 2010, where her doctoral research focused on civil wars. Dr. Nordås has held positions as a Senior Researcher at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) and has served as Deputy Editor for the Journal of Peace Research. Her research interests center around political violence and repression, particularly the causes and dynamics of conflict-related sexual and gender-based violence. She explores the links between demographic factors and conflict repression, as well as the implications of climate change on conflict. Her work has been published in reputable journals including the American Journal of Political Science and Political Geography. Additionally, Dr. Nordås has received funding from the National Science Foundation and the Norwegian Research Council for her projects and was awarded the Young Research Talent grant for her research on the Dynamics of Conflict-related Sexual Violence. She has also been a visiting research fellow at the Kroc Institute at the University of Notre Dame and a fellow at the Belfer Center at Harvard Kennedy School.
