Biography

Rahman Azari is an architect and associate professor at the Department of Architecture, serving as the founding director of the Resource Energy Efficiency Lab (RE2) at Penn State. His research focuses on the life cycle environmental impacts of built environments, innovative building materials, energy production, carbon sequestration, and urban sustainability. Prior to his tenure at Penn State, Azari held the position of assistant professor and interim director of the Architecture Ph.D. program at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. He received the American Institute of Architects’ Upjohn Research Grant in 2018 and has been recognized by the Illinois Science Technology Coalition as a 'Researcher to Know' in 2019. His background is in architecture, having earned a Ph.D. in Built Environment from the University of Washington in Seattle.
