Dr. Rahul Kohli

Biography

Rahul M. Kohli, M.D., Ph.D., is a faculty member at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, where he holds the position of Francis C. Wood Professor in Medicine II and serves as Attending Physician in Infectious Diseases. Dr. Kohli has extensive expertise in clinical infectious diseases and is involved in academic programs as Associate Program Director for the MD/PhD program and Co-Director of the Penn Measey Scholars in Molecular Medicine. His research focus includes the study of DNA modifying enzymes, with specific interests in enzymatic processes such as deamination, oxidation, and methylation of cytosine bases, as well as mechanisms of antibiotic resistance in bacteria. He employs a variety of biochemical and biological approaches to explore how these enzymes contribute to genomic diversity and their potential applications in biotechnology. Dr. Kohli completed his B.S. in Biochemistry at the University of Michigan in 1998 and earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology from Harvard Medical School in 2004. His work contributes significantly to understanding the interactions between pathogens and the immune system, addressing core areas in epigenetics and genomic research.
