Dr. Rahul Kumar

Biography

Rahul Kumar is a distinguished Professor and Department Head in the Department of Philosophy at Queen's University. His research primarily investigates non-consequentialist ethical theory, with a keen focus on the strengths and weaknesses of Scanlon’s contractualism. Over the years, he has engaged in a comprehensive exploration of the foundations of interpersonal obligations. His broader academic interests span moral and political philosophy. Professor Kumar has taught a variety of seminars covering practical reasoning, moral responsibility, ethics concerning future generations, contractualism, and Rawls’s Theory of Justice. He holds a B.A. from Queen’s University and both a B.Phil. and D.Phil. from the University of Oxford, where he further honed his philosophical inquiries. He has authored various monographs and edited collections, including 'Consensualism Principle' and 'Ethics for Future Generations'. His notable journal articles address critical ethical dilemmas and philosophical inquiries, contributing substantially to contemporary philosophical discourse.
