Biography

Professor Rahul Santhanam is a Tutorial Fellow at Magdalen College, University of Oxford, specializing in Computer Science. He obtained his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Chicago in 2005 under the supervision of Professors Lance Fortnow and Janos Simon. His postdoctoral work included positions at Simon Fraser University and the University of Toronto before joining the University of Edinburgh as a Lecturer in Computer Science in 2008. In 2013, he was promoted to Reader and moved to Oxford in 2016. Professor Santhanam's research interests center on Computational Complexity, Algorithms, and Bounded Rationality. He was awarded the ERC Consolidator Grant in 2013 for his project 'Algorithms Lower Bounds: Unified Approach', which he held from March 2014 to August 2019. He has authored several notable publications in the field, including work on improved algorithms for QBF satisfiability and circuit lower bounds in Merlin-Arthur classes. His contributions to the research community focus on Randomised Algorithms, Foundational Issues, Computational Learning, Exact Algorithms, Fine-Grained Complexity, and Circuit Complexity.
