Dr. Rainer Glaß

Biography

Rainer Glaß is a professor of Neurosurgical Research at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. His research focuses on the role of neural precursor cells (NPC) in the development and progression of glioblastomas (GBM). His group investigates the interactions between glial cells and neurons, emphasizing how these cell types contribute to brain cancer dynamics. Through his work, he has explored various tumor-supportive effects of myeloid cells, the cellular microenvironment, and anti-tumorigenic properties pertaining to NPC. His team utilizes advanced methodologies in cellular and molecular biology, including transgenic models and single-cell transcriptomics, to uncover novel insights into tumor biology and potential therapeutic targets. A significant part of his research involves studying the impact of cannabinoids and their derivatives on GBM cell apoptosis and the mechanisms underlying their potential therapeutic effects. Rainer Glaß has published extensively, disseminating findings that shed light on new strategies for glioblastoma treatment while acknowledging the inter-individual heterogeneity of tumor responses to therapy.
