Dr. Rainer Kampling

Biography

Rainer Kampling is a professor of Biblical Theology/New Testament at Freie Universität Berlin, having held the position since 1992. He completed his doctorate in 1983 and habilitated in 1991. His academic background includes studies in Catholic Theology, Latin Philology, and Judaic Studies at the University of Münster. He has been active in various academic and interdisciplinary institutions, including roles in Jewish Studies in Berlin-Brandenburg and the Berlin Graduate School of Ancient Studies. Kampling's research focuses on the theology and history of Jewish-Christian relations, with particular emphasis on biblical reception history and parabiographical texts. He has published numerous monographs and edited volumes addressing themes like anti-Judaism, church history, and Christology. His work reflects a commitment to fostering dialogue and understanding between Jewish and Christian communities. Kampling has also contributed extensively to encyclopedic and lexicographic works in theology, focusing on Jewish-Christian relations.
