Biography

Professor Rainer Kolisch's research focuses on the analysis and design of service processes using quantitative models and methods. He completed his undergraduate degree in Economics at TU Darmstadt and earned his PhD in 1994 from Kiel University, where he specialized in operations scheduling and the management of scarce resources. In 1991, he acquired a Postdoctoral Teaching Qualification (Habilitation) from Kiel, concentrating on production planning in order-based manufacturing. Starting in 1999, he taught Business Studies at TU Darmstadt, and in 2002, he was appointed professor of Industrial Management at TU Dresden. He has been a professor of Operations Management at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) since 2002. Over his academic career, Kolisch has received numerous accolades, including the Teaching Award for big lectures from the School of Management (2002-2022) and the Excellence Reviewing Award from the European Journal of Operational Research in 2022. He has been recognized as one of the top research-intensive professors in Business Administration in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland by Handelsblatt in 2005, and was a Habilitation Fellow at DFG from 1996 to 1998.
