Dr. Raja Sengupta

Biography

Raja Sengupta is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. He holds a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering from the University of Michigan, where his research focuses on various aspects of automated vehicles including drones, connected cars, and smartphone applications. His work spans areas such as Economics and Transportation, wireless networking, and control theory. He has contributed significantly to car-to-road networking, holding multiple patents with both Toyota and BAE Aerospace, and has been an advisor for the World Bank. Sengupta's research interests include transportation, wireless communications, and inertial vehicle systems. He has authored numerous papers in the field and has received awards for his contributions to connected vehicle technology. His current projects involve developing sensor networks for monitoring forest fires and creating an in-vehicle sensing communication system as part of the Neighborhood Mapping initiative. Throughout his academic career, he has been involved in fundamental research that seeks to advance the capabilities of unmanned aerial and ground vehicles to perform self-directed collaborative tasks in various application domains.
