Biography

Rajesh Bhaskaran’s work seeks to promote the democratization of simulation through effective integration of simulation tools in engineering education. He directs the Swanson lab and has helped introduce industry-standard simulation tools into Cornell courses covering fluid mechanics, heat transfer, solid mechanics, and numerical analysis. He led the development of the SimCafe online portal for learning and teaching finite-element CFD simulations. SimCafe is used worldwide in courses as a self-paced learning tool for students and industry professionals. He developed a unified methodology using simulations across disparate lecture-based lab courses, which aids students in learning to approach simulations like experts rather than merely pushing buttons and accepting results at face value. His professional interests include engineering applications of simulation technology, reliable deployment of advanced simulations for generalist engineers, and facilitating conceptual change for learners using simulations. He has organized international workshops focused on simulation in engineering curricula and offers a widely-used free online course on hands-on engineering simulations using Ansys.
