Rajesh Pereira is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Guelph. He completed his PhD in Mathematics from the University of Toronto in 2003. Before joining the University of Guelph in 2007, he was an Assistant Professor at the University of Saskatchewan. His early research focused on solving significant problems in analytic theory of polynomials. Currently, his research spans classical functional analysis, matrix theory, and quantum information. He investigates various intriguing questions related to matrix theory and has successfully applied diagonal matrix scalings to obtain symmetric states that maximize geometric entanglement. Pereira and his coauthors have addressed the Perfect-Mirsky conjecture concerning the spectra of doubly stochastic matrices. His work has further expanded on the theorem of Wielandt in the context of Banach algebras, providing spectral inclusion bounds that relate to sums and products of elements within these algebras. Besides his research, Pereira is actively involved in editorial work and has served on the Editorial Board of Linear Multilinear Algebra since 2016. He is also the Problem Corner editor for the International Linear Algebra Society and has organized the William Lowell Putnam competition since 2013.
