Biography

Dr. Rajni Patel received a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cambridge, England, in 1973. He currently holds the position of Distinguished University Professor Tier-1 Canada Research Chair in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Western University, with a cross appointment in the Department of Surgery in the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry. Dr. Patel is also the Director of the Engineering Canadian Surgical Technologies & Advanced Robotics (CSTAR) research program at the London Health Sciences Centre Lawson Health Research Institute. He has published over 460 papers in refereed journals and conferences, focusing on robotics and mechatronics, particularly in the areas of surgical therapy, rehabilitation for neurological movement disorders, and space applications. Additionally, his research has covered haptics and teleoperation, systems control, artificial neural networks, and intelligent systems. Dr. Patel is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and a Fellow of several prestigious engineering organizations including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). He has served on editorial boards for numerous academic journals and is currently a member of the Advisory Board for the International Journal of Medical Robotics and Computer Assisted Surgery.
