Rakesh Nagi is a professor and the head of the Engineering Systems Design Pillar at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). He joined SUTD in August 2023 after serving as the Donald Biggar Willett Professor in Engineering at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, on leave. Nagi has held leadership roles such as the Department Head of Industrial Enterprise Systems Engineering from 2013 to 2019. His academic career includes a tenure at the University at Buffalo, SUNY, where he was a chair and professor in Industrial Systems Engineering from 1993 to 2013. Nagi holds a PhD and MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland at College Park and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Roorkee, India. His research focuses on applied military operations research, production and manufacturing systems, and he has received several prestigious awards for his contributions to the field, including the IISE David F. Baker Distinguished Research Award and INFORMS Koopman Award for Military Application. He has published extensively in numerous leading journals and continues to engage in research addressing challenges in engineering systems. His research interests include Data Science and Analytics, Machine Learning, Operations Management, Supply Chain Operations, and Agile Manufacturing.
