Biography

Ralf Schirrmacher is a Professor in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta, specializing in Oncology. He obtained his PhD in Nuclear Chemistry from the University of Mainz in 1999 and later completed a brief postdoctoral stay at the University of Pennsylvania. Following his research at the University of Mainz, he worked as a civil servant until 2007. In 2008, he was appointed as the Head of Radiochemistry and Director of the Cyclotron at the McConnell Brain Imaging Center at the Montreal Neurological Institute, McGill University. During his tenure at McGill, he held a Canada Research Chair in Molecular Imaging Radiochemistry. Currently, he leads a research group focused on developing new imaging agents in the field of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) for oncology and neurology. His current research interests include novel radiolabeling strategies for cancer imaging, receptor ligands for oncological and neurological imaging, and the development of nanoparticle PET platforms. He has collaborated with various radionuclides, including carbon-11 and fluorine-18, and welcomes undergraduate and graduate students with backgrounds in chemistry and pharmacology to inquire about research opportunities.
