Professor Ralf Toumi obtained his PhD from the University of Cambridge. He was appointed as a temporary lecturer in the Chemistry Department and became a Fellow in Physical Chemistry at Christ's College. In 1994, he transitioned to the Physics Department at Imperial College London, where he became a lecturer and was promoted to Professor of Atmospheric Physics in 2005. He served as the Head of the Space Atmospheric Physics Group from 2014 to 2020 and is currently the Co-Director of the Grantham Institute for Climate Change and the Environment. His accolades include the Phillip Leverhulme Prize in 2002 for scholars of outstanding distinction, and the Imperial College Merit Award for outstanding research achievement in 2004. He held a Royal Society Industry Fellowship from 2006 to 2010, as well as a NERC Knowledge Exchange Fellowship from 2009 to 2012, which focused on adaptation in the energy sector. Professor Toumi has played a significant role in the community as Co-chair of the Adaptation Services for Climate KIC from 2013 to 2015 and has contributed to various international reports on climate science. He has supervised 34 PhD students and currently leads one of Europe's largest research groups focused on tropical cyclones.
