Dr. Ralph Adolphs

Biography

Ralph Adolphs is a Professor at the California Institute of Technology, where he holds the Bren Professorship. He has a background in psychology, neuroscience, and biology, having earned his B.S. and M.S. from Stanford University in 1986 and his Ph.D. from Caltech in 1993. His research primarily focuses on the neural and psychological basis of human social behavior, particularly how individuals recognize, perceive, and process emotions and social cues such as facial expressions. Adolphs has contributed significantly to the understanding of social and moral judgments and the emotional decisions of individuals, including those with autism, who may experience difficulties in social interactions. He served as the Director of the Caltech Brain Imaging Center and has previously held various leadership roles at the institution, furthering his impact on the field.
