Ralph Hückelhoven researches the biological molecular causes of plant diseases, with a main interest in natural immunity in plants. He pays particular attention to the transport and signal transduction processes that allow pathogens to successfully intervene. His work spans multiple levels, from low-molecular signals to cell biology and epidemiology. Hückelhoven studied biology at RWTH Aachen and obtained his doctorate from the University of Giessen in 1999. He completed his lecturer qualification in molecular phytopathology and cell biology in 2005. From 2002 to 2006, he led an independent junior research group funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) focusing on long-term disease resistance in barley. He accepted the Chair of Phytopathology at TUM in 2006 and is a member of several German and international phytopathological societies, having published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers in his field.
