Biography

Ralph Ossa holds the UBS Foundation Professorship in Economics at the University of Zurich. He served as Chief Economist at the World Trade Organization from January 2023 to June 2025. His research focuses on international economics, with a particular emphasis on questions of policy relevance. For example, he explored the economics of trade wars and trade talks, estimating how countries gain from international trade. His project "Deep Integration Agreements" received an ERC Consolidator Grant from the European Research Council. Ossa served as chairman of the Department of Economics from 2019 to 2022 and was a co-editor of the Journal of International Economics from 2016 to 2022. Prior to moving to Zurich, he was on the faculty of the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He holds a PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics.
