Ram Krishna Ranjan works at the intersection of pedagogy, research, and filmmaking as a film practitioner with a particular focus on migration, gentrification, exclusion, and memory in relation to decoloniality and postcoloniality. He aims to foster conversations regarding place-specific issues of social justice, and is deeply interested in film practice as a means of inquiry influenced by various methodological contexts. Ranjan's practice dissolves traditional disciplinary boundaries in favor of innovative methodological possibilities, utilizing genres such as cinema, documentary, fiction, and essayistic forms. He completed his PhD in artistic research, titled 'Cuts Continuities: Caste-Subaltern Imaginations of the Bengal Famine 1943', where he explored the methodological underpinnings of creative-collaborative practice as well as iterative and reflective transdisciplinary film practices. Over the years, Ranjan has created over ten films that have gained wide recognition. He has also been involved in several projects addressing themes of oral history and energy justice, and is co-editing a special issue titled 'Fabulation' planned for release in 2025. His academic training in Fine Arts, Film, Ethnography, and Cultural Studies has enabled him to pursue an expanded notion of film practice across multiple disciplines.
