Biography

Ramachandran Venkatesan received his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering with honors from Madurai, followed by a Master of Science and a PhD from New Brunswick. He has contributed significantly to the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Memorial University of Newfoundland since joining in 1987 as an Assistant Professor. Over the years, he has held various administrative roles, including Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research, and Acting Dean. From March 2011 to July 2012, he served as Dean Pro Tempore, leading the faculty's eight-year growth plan. Professor Venkatesan has taught a range of courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels in digital systems, computer architecture, and information theory coding. He has supervised over 60 graduate students and post-doctoral fellows, contributing to significant research projects funded by private industry and government agencies. His research interests include parallel processing architectures, underwater communications, error control codes, digital design, and sensor networks.
