Biography

Rami J. Salib holds the Inaugural Chair of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Southampton and serves as an Honorary Consultant Otolaryngologist at the University Hospital Southampton, specializing in Rhinology, Facial Plastics, and Allergy. A graduate of Nottingham University Medical School in 1994, he completed his higher specialist surgical training in ENT across West Midlands and Wessex deaneries. His PhD was awarded in 2005 for research into inflammation mechanisms in allergic rhinitis, supported by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. In 2006, he was honored with a Hunterian Professorship in Surgery. Professor Salib's clinical fellowship in Rhinology & Anterior Skull Base Surgery was under the guidance of Professor Wytske Fokkens at the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam. He has held his current position since 2009 and is also the head of the Southampton Upper Airway Research Group, focusing on chronic rhinosinusitis, the development of biomarkers for dementia, and the characterization of sinonasal microbiome diversity in conditions like Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia. His contributions extend to teaching, where he has been involved in multiple educational initiatives for medical students and professionals.
