Biography

Ran Klein is an associate professor at the University of Ottawa, cross-appointed in the Department of Medicine and the Faculty of Engineering. He is also an adjunct professor at Carleton University in the Departments of Systems and Computer Engineering and Physics. He holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering and has a background as an imaging physicist in the Department of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging at the Ottawa Hospital. With over 20 years of research experience in nuclear medicine, Klein has authored 150 publications and abstracts. His significant contributions include the quantification of myocardial blood flow using rubidium-82 positron emission tomography, which has been applied clinically on an international scale. His work has led to the development of software for myocardial blood flow quantification, such as FlowQuant and Quantify DCE, and components licensed to INVIA 4DM. Additionally, he has commercialized an automated rubidium-82 infusion system with Jubilant Radiopharma, Ruby-FillTM. Klein's current research focuses on cardiac imaging, including the quantification of physiological functions, computer-aided diagnosis, artificial intelligence, and quality assurance in medical imaging.
