Biography

Randall L. Kennedy is the Michael R. Klein Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, where he teaches courses on contracts, criminal law, and the regulation of race relations. Born in Columbia, South Carolina, he has an extensive educational background that includes attendance at St. Albans School, Princeton University, Oxford University, and Yale Law School. Professor Kennedy began his career as a law clerk for Judge J. Skelly Wright in the United States Court of Appeals and later for Justice Thurgood Marshall in the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the District of Columbia Bar and the Supreme Court of the United States Bar. In 1998, he received the Robert F. Kennedy Book Award for his publication "Race, Crime, Law." His scholarly work includes notable books such as "Discrimination: Race, Affirmative Action, Law" (2013) and "Persistence of the Color Line: Racial Politics in the Obama Presidency" (2011). He is also a member of the American Law Institute, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the American Philosophical Association, and he serves as a trustee emeritus of Princeton University.
