Dr. Randy Ellis

Biography

Randy E. Ellis is a professor at Queen's University in Kingston, appointed as the Queen's Research Chair in Computer-Assisted Surgery. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts obtained in 1987. His primary research interests involve medical data analysis, with a focus on computer-assisted surgery, particularly in the field of orthopedic surgery. Early in his career, he specialized in robotics, honing skills in haptic sensing and teleoperated robots. Presently, his work integrates data analytics and machine learning with mass spectrometry, a technique used in analytical chemistry. Ellis has also served as a visiting professor and scientist at renowned institutions including Harvard Medical School and Johns Hopkins University. He is a fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and has received honorary fellowship from the Institute for Advanced Studies in Munich. Additionally, Ellis is recognized as a fellow by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
