Dr. Randy Goebel

Biography

Randy Goebel is a Professor in the Department of Computing Science at the University of Alberta, where he is also the Principal Investigator of the xAI Lab. His research interests span artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, explainable AI, knowledge representation, visualization, logic-based non-deductive reasoning, computational linguistics, belief revision, and systems biology. He focuses on the development and application of non-deductive reasoning techniques, particularly in automated diagnosis, scheduling, and database mining. His work includes the use of constraint languages and algorithms in various application domains, such as personnel scheduling and timetabling. Over his career, Randy has supervised over 85 early-stage researchers and has published more than 200 works, including refereed papers and invited contributions. He is noted for delivering talks at various academic, business, and governmental organizations worldwide, highlighting his status as a highly regarded speaker.
