Biography

Dr. Ranga Dinesh Kahanda Koralage is an Associate Professor in Energy Technologies at the University of Southampton's Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences. He earned his Honours degree with a Faculty Gold Medal from the University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka, reading Mathematics in 2002. He completed his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at Loughborough University, UK, focusing on clean combustion technology in 2007. His research involves clean energy technologies, utilizing low- and zero-carbon fuels such as LNG, methanol, ammonia, and hydrogen in high-efficiency combustion engines and domestic heating systems. He has significant experience in process systems engineering, particularly in large-capacity green hydrogen production and thermal management for fuel cells and batteries. Kahanda Koralage has been involved in modeling and simulating scalability in thermal management systems utilizing proton exchange membrane (PEM) water electrolysis and gaseous-liquid hydrogen storage. He has taught various undergraduate modules including Advanced Mechanical Engineering Science and Introduction to Energy Technologies, and he has supervised several successful PhD students. He has secured eight research grants worth approximately £4 million as Principal Investigator, and he has conducted industry-scale projects in collaboration with notable organizations including Shell and AIRBUS (UK). Furthermore, he actively reviews for high-impact energy journals, contributing to the academic community in energy-related research.
