Professor Raphael Assier is a Reader in Applied Mathematics at the University of Manchester. He graduated from the École Centrale de Lyon and began his career as an engineer at Rolls-Royce in Derby. His research interests include canonical scattering problems, mathematical theory of diffraction, and the mathematical understanding of combustion instabilities, particularly in applications relevant to jet and rocket engines. He is particularly interested in the interplay between elegant mathematical theory and industrial applications, contributing to various research groups focused on Continuum Mechanics, Fluid Dynamics, and Waves.
