Raphaël Van Laer leads an interdisciplinary research team in photonics and quantum technologies at Chalmers University of Technology. He explores the interactions of light, sound, and microwaves in quantum information processing. Van Laer received his PhD in silicon photonics from Ghent University-imec, specializing in integrated nonlinear optics and optomechanics. His research results are recognized through receiving the IEEE Graduate Student Scholarship and the VOCATIO award. After completing his PhD, he primarily worked on thin-film lithium niobate, heterogeneous photonic integration, and the quantum microwave-to-optics conversion as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University within the LINQS team. His research efforts are supported by the Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology, Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research, as well as a Future Research Leader Grant and an European Research Council Starting Grant.
