Biography

Raquel Rojas is a Teaching Associate in Gender and Reproduction at the University of Cambridge. Her research explores issues including inequality, intersectionality, labor relations, and the transformation of caregiving from a private concern to a public policy matter. Rojas conducts empirical work primarily focused on Latin America, where she has conducted qualitative fieldwork to examine the experiences of household workers in Uruguay and Paraguay, particularly in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on care responsibilities. Her work also involves navigating the negotiations among various stakeholders involved in care policy debates. In an effort to decolonize the sociological canon, she emphasizes the importance of incorporating contributions from the Global South. Previously, Rojas has served as a researcher and lecturer at the Institute of Latin American Studies at Freie Universität Berlin. She also held a postdoctoral researcher position at MECILA, the Maria Sibylla Merian Centre for Conviviality and Inequality in Latin America. With an academic background that includes a PhD in Sociology from Freie Universität Berlin and an MA in Social Sciences from Humboldt University of Berlin, Rojas has received recognition as a Level researcher by the National Council for Science and Technology (CONACYT) in Paraguay since 2018.
