Biography

Rashid Zia is a Professor of Engineering and Physics at Brown University, where he serves as the Dean of the College and oversees five functional teams including Advising and Career Exploration. A champion of Brown's Open Curriculum, he emphasizes the value of a liberal education. Rashid completed his combined A.B./Sc.B. in English & American Literature and Electrical Engineering at Brown in 2001, continuing his studies at Stanford where he earned an M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering. He leads a research group that has received significant funding from agencies such as the Air Force Office of Scientific Research and the National Science Foundation. Rashid is also a Fellow of the Optical Society and has actively contributed to various initiatives in higher education.
